FAQ

Laser Hair Removal uses light and heat to penetrate the skin, to target the melanin & germ cell in the hair follicle. Since the cell will no longer be active, hair will not be able to regenerate.

Since a hair follicle is needed to emit the heat and light to the germ cell, it is essential that the hair follicle should be present. Therefore, no waxing or plucking can be done before the treatment. We also do not recommend hair removing creams or chemicals such as Veet, because your skin will be sensitive to heat during the treatment course. Unwanted hair during this time can be shaved in the direction of the hair growth with a clean razor.

Yes, Laser Hair Removal is one of the safest light-based treatments available. It is FDA approved and safe for all skin types, ages, male and female. Intense Pulsed Light Therapy Hair Removal is considered as a non-ablative resurfacing technique which only targets the lower (dermis) layer of the skin without affecting the top (epidermis) layer of the skin.

Once the session begins you will feel a warm, slightly stinging sensation. It depends on your hair thickness and density, as well as your personal pain threshold. Most of our clients describe it as a tolerable prickling sensation and some feel minimal to no pain at all. Most people are nervous about going under the laser. But do not worry- our therapists have got your back (and your legs, your bikini line, your underarms and anywhere else you might need attention!).

After each session your hair will become less dense, softer, and thinner. After a full course of successful Laser Hair Removal, your hair might be completely gone for a few months; and a few very weak, soft, and light hairs might reappear due to hormonal changes. Therefore, we recommend that you come for an annual maintenance session to get rid of those little stubborn ones. Here at SKINS, we have a policy that if you have taken the x10 sessions package deal, all sessions after your course/annual maintenance sessions in that area will be treated for free.

Optimally, we would recommend that you have 8-12 Laser Hair Removal sessions. The reason for this is because within every session, only about 10%-15% of your hair in that area will be permanently reduced. The results are going to vary per individual because everyone’s hair is different. You might be smooth within just a few sessions, or you might need some extra TLC (Tender Laser Care).

HOW CAN I SUCCESSFULLY PREPARE FOR THIS TREATMENT?

It is essential that you have hair follicles present when coming for your treatment. Therefore, discontinue waxing, hair removal creams or chemicals like Veet, tweezing and electrolysis. The device targets the color of your hair, therefore do not bleach your hair in the treatment area. Also discontinue use of Folic Acid.

It is essential that you avoid the sun, tanning beds, self-tanners, and spray tans on the treatment area. If you are out and about, please wear a good SPF50 sunscreen. Use a protective barrier such as clothing to cover your treatment areas. Stop using any harsh chemicals or topical prescription products in the area that needs treatment.

Please carefully shave the hair in your treatment area in the direction of the hair growth with a clean razor. You can also remove the hair with a facial hair trimmer if you prefer it.

Makeup, lotion, sunscreen and literally anything else that you might have applied to your treatment area must be removed before the treatment. If you forgot this one, your therapist will remove it for you.

Your skin will be very sensitive to any form of heat, therefore avoid the sun, hot water, sanitizer and other alcohol containing products on that area. You will need to wear lots of sunscreen, aloe vera gel if needed and use natural products. We’ll tell you a bit more about it at your consultation.
